Even though digging into House's personal life was at times interesting and the actress who portrayed the rape victim was very good, this episode definitely felt out of place and we can only hope this was an exception to the series' format. Also out of place was the lack of medical mystery, and that absence was noticeable. House and his patient argued about the meaning of life, abortion and other such deep topics and it was all interesting, but very out of place for a drama like House. There were a lot of philosophical moments in this episode that left us with mixed feelings. Watching this old man die may return her to the person she was, sort of resetting the changes House has effected on her. She has even seemed to emulate House in recent stories. Her husband's death impacted Cameron greatly and she came into working for House as a very na¿ve yet forgiving and compassionate doctor. He wanted to leave a mark on the world and he felt dying painfully while Cameron watched would leave that mark.

This episode, she was stuck with an old man dying of cancer who didn't want his pain eased. She married him knowing he was going to die. As for Cameron's case, as we've learned in the past, she lost her husband to cancer. Watching House diagnose patients without touching them and using a scalpel to show another doctor that the magnet in a boy's abdomen was well past his stomach were very entertaining moments of the show, but did very little to add to this episode, medically or personal story-wise. House (Hugh Laurie, R) has difficulty finding any bedside manner with a patient (Katheryn Winnick, L) who requests that he be her doctor Since this is House, it's hard to know if that is truth or not, but the tone of the episode and the discussion leads us to believe that was in fact a truth about the backstory of House. But before the end of the episode, he told her it was at the hand of his father. He related a story of abuse at the hand of his grandmother, then later recanted it. This was the heart of the episode, not because of her diagnosis, but because of what she wanted from House. She wanted to connect with House and even attempted suicide when he tried to pass her off to another doctor. The second was the focus of the episode, a young rape victim who not only got an STD from her rapist, but pregnant as well. This case was so unimportant to the episode, as were most of the patients House saw. House knew it right off the bat, but let his team run a battery of tests to busy themselves so he could get out of clinic duty.

The first was a man with a bug in his ear.

Cameron worked in the clinic as well, which gave her a case of her own. Cuddy forced House to work the clinic, which is where his focal case and one side case came from.
